Why are cotton sheets rough?

The quality of the cotton.

The cotton industry is one of the largest industries in the world. It is difficult to trace the supply chain. The lack of traceability of cotton makes the quality of the fibre and therefore the quality of your linen uncertain. Lower quality cotton sheets can be rougher because they contain shorter and less fine fibres. Better quality cotton sheets have longer, finer fibres, making them softer and silkier to the touch.

At Comptoir du Bambou, we use a low percentage of cotton in the design of Fibre B. The cotton we use is certified.

Cotton sheets undergo extensive chemical treatment

Cotton sheets are treated with chemicals to give them a smooth and shiny appearance. These chemicals make the sheets stiffer and less soft after the first wash.

Our bamboo fibre, Fibre B., is designed in a closed system to limit product rejects. Very few products are used in the production of our linen.

Washing and drying quickly degrade the cotton fibre

Cotton sheets tend to become softer and more comfortable as they are washed and dried. If cotton sheets are not washed and dried properly, they can become rough.

Comptoir du Bambou sheets will never be rough, on the contrary, they keep their softness and comfort after each wash.

The presence of moisture

Moisture can also play a role in the roughness of cotton sheets. Sheets that are not dried sufficiently can feel rougher, as can sheets that are washed in hard water.

Comptoir du Bambou sheets are made of bamboo fibre. One of the added values of bamboo fibre is that it absorbs moisture without affecting comfort.

As you will have understood, unlike brands that sell cotton linen, Comptoir du Bambou household linen will never become rough and will age much less quickly than cotton linen.
