What exactly is Fouta?

The Fouta is a piece of fabric with hand-tied fringes at the ends. It is currently very fashionable and originated in Tunisia. It was first used as a towel in hammams. Nowadays, it can be found on all the beaches and swimming pools of Europe and the whole world.

The Fouta is mainly made of cotton with a tight, very fine weave of one millimetre thickness. This very large bath or beach towel traditionally measures 100 x 200 cm. It is light, soft, super absorbent and dries super fast. It is easy to carry around and can easily be slipped into your suitcase and taken with you everywhere.

What is the purpose of the fouta?

Originally, the Fouta was tied around the waist when entering a hammam. Today, however, it is used for various purposes.
