Comptoir du Bambou, a My Good Group brand, announces its decision not to take part in EquipHotel 2024

The hotel industry is an extremely competitive industry. Hoteliers are constantly looking for ways to reduce their costs and improve their margins. Reducing the cost of linen is therefore one of the main issues.

Furthermore, the hotel industry is a sector that has a significant impact on the environment. Hotels produce a lot of waste, consume a lot of energy and water, and have a strong impact on biodiversity. Reducing the ecological and financial cost of linen in hotels is an important and necessary challenge for hoteliers, as they need to find ways to reduce their environmental impact without sacrificing the quality of their services.

There are various ways in which hotels can reduce the cost of linen.

Reduce linen turnover

It is true that if hotels opt for a linen with a more resistant fabric, they will see their frequency of linen renewal decrease. It is therefore better to choose linen that may be more expensive at the time but will be more durable over time. The purchase of linen should be seen as a long-term investment, which will considerably reduce costs. For example, bamboo fibre is more economical because it is three times more resistant and therefore three times less renewable.

Reduce the amount of laundry in the machines

Hoteliers must also be careful not to overload their washing machines. This leads to poor washing of the laundry and therefore to faster damage. In addition, an overfilled drum will not allow the laundry to spin properly, which will make drying more complicated and time-consuming. To compensate, the laundry will be dried at a high temperature and therefore burn the fibre, which will make it rougher and therefore encourage renewal. For a good wash it is not enough to wash at high temperature but at the right temperature. If we take the example of a bamboo linen, it needs to be washed at 30°C only, which is much more economical.

Reducing water and energy consumption

Water consumption is a real problem because the environmental impact of textile production is considerable. One way of doing this is to wait until the washing machine is full enough to run. This will allow it to be used less often. It is better to have a larger stock of clothes than to run the washing machine with almost nothing. In addition, washing at low temperatures saves water. Energy consumption can also be reduced by using more efficient electrical appliances. It is also worthwhile running machines at off-peak times as the cost will be lower and therefore profitable for the hotels.

Reduce the amount of waste produced

It would be better to choose a cloth that does not retain stains so as not to generate additional waste. For example, bamboo is a very smooth fibre, unlike cotton, which means that stains do not become embedded. The laundry does not lose its colour, which remains as bright as ever. Bamboo fibre is a soft and silky material that does not require the use of fabric softener, a real pollutant for the planet. Thanks to its softness, using bamboo linen offers a much more pleasant experience for customers.

Bamboo fibre, a revolutionary textile fibre

Bamboo is a very innovative and above all self-sustaining material. It does not require insecticides, pesticides or fertilisers to grow properly and in large quantities. Unlike cotton, which is not at all environmentally friendly, bamboo does not need more water than the planet provides. Bamboo regenerates itself and grows quickly, while its competitor does the opposite. Bamboo is therefore a real alternative to cotton cultivation, which is very polluting for our biodiversity.

Reducing linen costs for hotels is an important issue. Technology and various designer initiatives now make it possible to promote responsible and virtuous products throughout the product life cycle.

Thanks to Comptoir du Bambou linen, which is stronger and more durable, they can increase their margins. From the cultivation of the bamboo to its maintenance cycle, Comptoir du Bambou linen is more attractive than conventional cotton linen. All stages have been optimised to consume fewer resources and reduce the footprint of linen care. Thanks to better designed and thought-out products, such as the bamboo fibre linen, hoteliers will have more opportunity to improve their profitability and develop new services.
